Once your compostable materials are collected by Compost Carpool, they undergo a transformation process that benefits both the environment and the community. Initially, a portion of the collected organic waste is donated to local urban farms and community gardens, where it’s used to enrich the soil, promoting healthier plant growth and increasing agricultural productivity. The remainder of the waste is processed into a high-quality, nutrient-dense soil amendment through a controlled decomposition process. This compost is then made available to customers who have been with the service for more than three months as part of the Giveback Program, distributed biannually in the spring and fall.

Since we do not accept meat or dairy, odors are typically minimal. To minimize any smells further, store your bucket on your porch or in your garage.
Our service accepts a wide range of organic materials, including fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, flowers, and grains. For a detailed list of what you can compost, visit our Compost Guide.
Please note that we do not accept meat, dairy, or compostable plastics. To-go food containers should also be avoided, as they often contain non-compostable materials.
Composting is a natural process that transforms organic waste into a rich soil known as compost.
Composting offers multiple benefits. By converting waste into a nutrient-rich soil, composting significantly reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills. Additionally, compost enhances soil quality by improving its structure, increasing nutrient content, and boosting moisture retention. Overall, composting provides a more sustainable approach to waste management and plays a critical role in mitigating climate change, preserving natural resources, and enhancing the environmental health of our communities.
